For efficiency and occupant comfort, today’s buildings utilize complex heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems which rely heavily on an equally complex building envelope system. The building envelopes are comprised of numerous components assembled by various trades, over an extended period of time in often challenging weather conditions. They also account for a substantial portion of the total construction budget. If the building envelope system fails to perform as intended, the Building Owner/user pays in reduced occupant comfort, higher energy costs, and the premature deterioration of building envelope components. Building envelope failures can be difficult and costly to diagnose, and are usually disruptive and costly to repair; re-establishing the desired performance can be questionable.
